Love Definitions - A Collection

Love
  • Strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties.
  • Affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests
  • Warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion
  • Unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another
  • An intense feeling of deep affection.
  • Feel a deep romantic or sexual attachment to (someone)


 7 Types of Love

Eros = Eros is sexual or passionate love, and is the type most akin to our modern construct of romantic love. The term "erotic" is derived from Eros.

Philia = The hallmark of philia, or friendship, is shared goodwill. Consider Philia or Philadelphia as brotherly love.

Storge = From ancient Greek. Familial Love refers to natural or instinctual affection such as the love of a parent towards offspring.

Agape = From ancient Greek or Greco-Christain term referring to love. Within Christianity,  agape is considered to be the love originating from God or Christ for mankind.

Ludus = It is said, this type of love leads a partner into a type of madness or obsessiveness. These lovers live in "need" of their partners. Interesting enough in ancient Rome a Ludus was a gladiator training facility and a board game.

Pragma = A more practical love founded on reason or duty. Sexual attraction is not at the forefront but rather shared goals and personal qualities are primary. This is considered the "Love that Endures".

Philautia = Love of Oneself or Self Esteem.

  • Love...there is nothing else,
  • Love is 'action', 
  • Love is actively focusing on giving a damn about someone other than yourself,
  • Love is 'work'
  • Love is a skill worth mastering

The Good Doctor - Pt 1 When we last left our weary travelers, they had just received the worst news an exhausted and exacerbated traveler could get especially in front of witnesses. The following is my best recollection of the North Hollywood Shoot Out  February 28, 1997 This posting of "A Day In The Life" flows in the same vain as the  A Day In The Life Of An Airport Shuttle Driver .
